My team and I work in collaboration with UK Overseas Territories (UKOTs) and international partners to implement the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC) in the territories. I oversee plant conservation projects in the UKOTs that include delivery of practical conservation outcomes, capacity building and scientific research. My current project portfolio includes inventory and monitoring of plant communities; effects of management and climate change on plant communities; conservation assessment, population analysis and recovery planning for threatened plant species; and the impacts and monitoring of invasive alien species. At Kew, I oversee conservation assessments, herbarium specimen digitisation and production of horticultural protocols for UKOTs plant species. I develop and maintain bespoke GIS for plant inventory and monitoring as well as field data collection protocols for UKOTs projects. I am particularly interested in the development of botanic gardens, native plant nurseries and ex-situ collections in the UKOTs, with particular reference to their conservation role.
